What Should I Bring to My In-Person Driving Improvement Class?
While situations may vary, you will need to bring a government-issued form of photo identification and (if your attendance is required because of a court order) documentation from the court stating that you are to attend the in-person driving improvement clinic and that you are to be awarded safe driving points.
What are the Reasons for Taking In-Person Driving Improvement Program?
There are a few different reasons for taking in-person driving improvement training. Most often, the attendant has been instructed to take the class either by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or by the court system. If the driver was court-required to participate in an in-person Driving Improvement Program (DIP), then a court document stating that the driver is to be awarded safe-driving points must be presented to the instructor. Failure to do so will result in the student not receiving their safe driving points.
Students may have also been directed to take the class by the DMV or by their insurance provider. Some students take in-person Driver Improvement Program classes voluntarily to receive safe-driving points on their driving record.

What If I Cannot Find a Class That I Can Attend In-Person?
A1 Driver offers an online driving improvement program through our accredited affiliate Driving University. You can complete this online safe driving course at your own pace as long as you complete the full 8-hour course. This option offers flexibility for those who need to take a driving improvement course, but cannot fit in-person instruction into their schedule.
